80th Anniversary of VE and VJ day

Writer's picture: Tom WebsterTom Webster

2025 is a big year marking the 80th anniversary of the end of hostilities in WW2. But what makes it so "big", after all 80 is not 100 or 1000? The answer is simple: veterans. Realistically this is the last decade anniversary to which WW2 veterans are likely to attend. For that reason we, the current generations of the young[er] from a free world owe that freedom to the scarifices and hardships of those veterans, whether veterans from the armed forces or from the Home Front. All deserve our recognition and thanks.

For that reason I am calling on all event organisers whether from one off shows or shows hosted by organisers of several events,

I am calling on re-enactors of history from that era and

I am calling on the general public to stand up and make 2025 a re-enacting year to remember. One that will do our veteran parents, grandparents, ancestors proud, a year like no other. If you are sitting on the fence whether to organise a WW2 event this year, sitting on the fence whether to re-enact WW2 this year or sitting on the fence whether to visit a WW2 history event this year the call goes out to decide and organise/visit these events.

In the words of Winston Churchill, "Let us go forward together!"
